Migration under economic transition and changing climate in Mongolia

Migration has become an adaptation strategy in response to economic transition and changing climate the arid Mongolia. This paper reviews migration Mongolia past few decades, particularly from early 2000s mid-2010s using data during 2001–2014 of National Labor Survey. Urbanization accounted for over 80% all migration, mostly into capital city Ulaanbaatar (UB), where nearly 70% recent population growth was migration. The results indicated that married more educated people were likely migrate urban areas less rural areas. Higher wage a major driver move cities pastoral livelihoods. Migratory rates both increased 2011–2014 following severe disaster, 2009–2010 dzud. People eastern region back area than those living western as east had favorable pastoralism. confirm importance weather changes along with several socio-economic indicators.
